Adult Literacy

An estimated 60% of adults in Mozambique still cannot read and write, with the illiteracy rate higher among women and in the rural areas. Learning to read and write is an essential tool to dramatically change all adult’s options for jobs, health, family, life.

At Vila Maninga, over the years there has been adult literacy classes in the evenings in the school buildings to encourage the local community, especially the women that it is never too late to come back to school and learn to read and write. This will continue wtih the local community doing the day to day running of the project.
